Abstract
Purpose: To analyze durability of plasma treatment to improve the wettability of the RGP contact lenses, and to evaluate clinical efficiency of wearing RGP contact lenses by plasma treated. Methods: Plasma treatment RGP contact lens and normal RGP contact lens have been measured contact angle after cleaning. Sessile drop was used as a method of measurement each time. Cleaners were used two types, the abrasive cleaner and non-abrasive cleaner, and RGP contact lenses and the non-plasma treated RGP contact lenses were randomly worn to subject`s right eye and left eye. Furthermore, to evaluate the wettability of surface, NIBUT and NIDUT of pre-lens were examined. Result: Initial wettability of plasma treated RGP contact lens was higher than non-plasma treated RGP contact lens, but its contact angle after cleaning was gradually increased. There were no significant differences between plasma treated RGP contact lens and non-plasma treated RGP contact lens when abrasive cleaner was used, after washing four times, and when non-abrasive cleaner was used, after washing six times. NIBUT/NIDUT of plasma treated RGP contact lens was higher than non-plasma treated RGP contact lens in the day 1, but there were no significant differences between plasma treated and non-plasma treated at day 7. Conclusion: It is considered that the effects of plasma treatment will be lasted only within 1 week in vivo but to help for adaptation by improving of initial comfort.
